Bruce confirms new injury blow – but 4 key players passed fit to face Leicester

Steve Bruce has confirmed that Jonjo Shelvey has suffered a ‘grade two hamstring tear’ and will be missing for a couple of weeks.

On the plus side, the NUFC head coach confirmed in his presser this morning that Sean Longstaff, Allan Saint-Maximin and Andy Carroll are all fit to face Leicester, with DeAndre Yedlin also in contention for the first time in 5 months.

The American appears to be fully recovered from a long term groin injury and could feature on Sunday, however the game will come too soon for Matt Ritchie and Florian Lejeune.

Bruce did state that Ritchie is ‘not far away’, suggesting he could make next weekend’s clash with Man Utd, while Lejeune has been spotted back in training for the first time since ACL surgery, so he seems to be making great progress.

So, we can expect Longstaff to replace Shelvey in midfield and now have Saint-Maximin, Carroll and Yedlin fit and raring to go – although it remains to be seen if any of the latter trio will start this Sunday.
