Sunderland fans in meltdown as Steve McClaren makes contact with the club..

Just when you think it couldn’t get much worse on Wearside, it’s emerged this afternoon that Steve McClaren has now put himself forward for the Sunderland job.

As revealed by the Northern Echo, the former Newcastle, England and Boro boss has now ‘made contact’ with club chiefs at the Stadium of Light to express his interest in the vacant job.

This comes after former manager Jack Ross was sacked earlier this week, however news of McClaren’s interest has gone down like a led balloon on Wearside:

To say this news hasn’t gone down well on social media is an understatement, with the responses to @ChronicleSAFC’s tweet above telling you all you need to know.

With Sam Allardyce already ruling himself out of the job, it seems there’s another ex-Newcastle boss hoping to save the day for the League One side, however it remains to be seen how the club will react to his approach.

I can’t see it happening, but Netflix may be in for more comedy content if the ‘wally with the brolly’ arrives to save the day at the Stadium of Light!
