Rafa Benitez could make January move to sign NUFC player for Dalian Yifang – Report

According to the Chronicle, Rafa Benitez is a ‘big fan’ of Newcastle United’s Federico Fernandez and could attempt to bring the centre-back to China in January.

This comes from Mark Douglas’ latest piece on contract talks at Newcastle United, with the Argentine also mentioned given his current deal is due to expire next summer.

The report reveals that a ‘number of clubs’ in Spain are tracking the former Swansea skipper, but Douglas claims that Rafa Benitez could attempt to bring the 30-year-old to Dalian Yifang in January.

This Could see Fernandez not only reunited with Rafa, but fellow former Mag Salomon Rondon – who’s bagged 3 goals and 2 assists in 7 appearances in the Chinese Super League this season.

Nothing concrete seems to be in place, and the club may well decide to keep the experienced centre-back until his contract expires next summer, however this move would not surprise me – especially when he’s started just once under Steve Bruce so far this season.
