NUFC’s forgotten man spotted in great spirits at training – & he could feature vs Chelsea

The club released pictures of the players in training this week, and one man that stood out was Dwight Gayle – Newcastle’s forgotten who’s last appearance for the club came almost 18 months ago in May 2018.

The striker, who turned 29 today, looked in great spirits at Benton (see pictures below), with him now back training with the first-team on a regular basis for the first time in months – and back smiling again as a result.

He was named on the bench in the 1-0 win over Man Utd two weeks ago, however he’s being tipped to feature at Stamford Bridge this weekend after a good week of training over the international break:

He struggled to make an impact in our first season back following promotion, managing just 6 goals and 4 assists in 38 appearances in 2017/18, however he returns to Tyneside off the back of yet another prolific spell in the second tier.

Gayle was involved in 32 goals (24 G, 8 A) in 41 appearances for West Brom last season and will be desperate to prove himself at Premier League level under Bruce – a manager who’s spoken highly of him during his spells on the sidelines with a calf injury.

I’d expect Joelinton to lead the line on Saturday once again, but with the Brazilian struggling for goals (albeit via a lack of support or chances created for him!), Gayle’s return is a welcome one to give us another option in attack.
