According to the Shields Gazette, Steve Bruce is considering handing start to both Andy Carroll and Dwight Gayle against Wolves on Sunday.
The pair both featured in the second half at Stamford Bridge, and Miles Starforth’s latest piece claims the attacking duo are now in the boss’ thoughts after we failed to register a single shot on target at Chelsea.
It wouldn’t surprise me if both started to refresh our stuttering forward line, however it’s hard to know how we’d be set up it the pair both came in.
Bruce admits Almiron’s confidence is low, but says that will “hopefully return next week”, suggesting he’s not going to be dropped, and you can almost guarantee that Saint-Maximin will start giving he’s been by far our most threatening attacker in the last two games.
Joelinton will almost certainly make way if Gayle and Carroll come in, but starting both and keeping Almiron and Saint-Maximin in the side could mean a return to four at the back and a potential move to 4-4-2.
It would be harsh to drop Clark and a risky move by Bruce, but the team could look something like this on Sunday IF Carroll and Gayle got the nod:
(4-4-2): Dubravak – Yedlin, Schar, Lascelles, Willems – Almiron, M Longstaff, S Longstaff, Saint-Maximin – Carroll, Gayle.
Thoughts?
I would just keep Carroll as a sub an build his fitness, even bringing him on at half time, tricky dropping players an not ruining confidence, but also a gamble starting Carroll an risking injury
