Club reporter hints NUFC player will start for first time since 2018 vs Wolves

The Chronicle’s Lee Ryder has hinted that Dwight Gayle will start ahead of our crucial clash with Wolves at St James’ Park on Sunday.

The 29-year-old made his first appearance of the season at Stamford Bridge on Saturday, however he failed to register a single touch off the ball during his 10 minutes on the pitch.

That said, Ryder has since claimed that the former West Brom loan star, who was visibly frustrated by his lack of service on Saturday, ‘should’ start this weekend.

Should he do so, this would be his first start for the club since May 2018 – a game which saw him score in a 3-0 win over Chelsea at St James’ Park.

This comes after another difficult afternoon for Joelinton at Chelsea, with the Brazilian losing the ball in the build up to their goal and cutting a frustrated figure once again.

I believe Bruce is not playing to his strengths and don’t believe dropping him is the answer, however it would be no surprise if changes were made against Wolves after zero shots on target and an alarming lack of goal threat last weekend.

Allan Saint-Maximin looks a real live wire and our one dangerous out ball in attack, but with Joelinton and Almiron visibly low on confidence, I think Sunday could be the day Bruce makes changes.
