According to a bizarre report from TEAMtalk, Newcastle are ready to make a move for Burnley defender Ben Gibson.
The exclusive claims Bruce has ‘long been an admirer’ of the former Middlesbrough star, stating that the club are keen to sign him on loan with an option to buy him next summer.
TEAMtalk also report that Burnley are willing to take a ‘major loss’ on the 26-year-old (who they paid £15m to sign just last summer), however I have one major issue with this latest transfer story – we do NOT need another centre-back.
We have SIX very capable central defenders on our books in Lascelles, Schar, Lejeune, Dummett, Clark and Fernandez, not to mention the latter can’t even get in the squad as a result (and I think Fernandez is as good, if not better than Gibson).
Not only that, should we really be using one of our precious domestic loan slots on a centre-back when we clearly need an injection of quality in attack.
