Bad news for Jacob Murphy as things go from bad to worse at Sheffield Wednesday

Jacob Murphy’s spell at Sheffield Wednesday has gone from bad to worse this week, with the NUFC loanee failing to even make Garry Monk’s latest 18-man squad.

The Owls took on a struggling Stoke City at Hillsborough on Tuesday night, but Murphy was left out entirely.

The 24-year-old hasn’t started for well over a month now and has played less than an hour of football this month – and based on their reaction on social media, Sheffield Wednesday fans were quite happy to see him left out.

Here’s what Wednesday fans have had to say about the Newcastle winger – who’s failed to weigh in with a single goal or assist since his debut in August:

After struggling to make any sort of impact under Rafa Benitez and failing to impress Baggies fans during his stint at West Brom earlier this year, his latest loan move to Sheffield Wednesday felt like a make or break moment.

Sadly, he looks to be getting worse, not better. Murphy is no longer a youngster. He’s two years older than Allan Saint-Maximin yet looks light years behind him on current evidence.

I’m pretty certain he wasn’t high up on his wish list in the summer after promotion, but Murphy looks set to be one of Rafa Benitez’s worst signings unless something changes dramatically.

Time to cut our losses and cash in, or do you believe the former England U-21 international will eventually turn things around on Tyneside?
