Former Newcastle United striker Joselu may have got off to a steady start following his summer move back to Spain, but his woes in front of goal returned over the weekend.
The Spaniard – who arrived on Tyneside for £5m in 2017 – has bagged 3 goals in 8 appearances for Alaves this season, scoring against Levante, Getafe and Mallorca to help his new club up to 12th in La Liga.
His form in front of goal hasn’t lasted long, however, with his missing an absolute sitter in their clash Celta Vigo on Sunday.
See the miss below (0:07 into the clip), showing him fail to sort his feet out and crash what should’ve been a tap in against the cross bar.
The highlights above also show the Spaniard spurn another big chance, with him dragging his shot wide at 1:07.
Thankfully, his misses didn’t prove too costly, with Alaves going on to win 2-0, with former Rafa Benitez target Lucas Perez (now Joselu’s strike partner) getting on the scoresheet.
Some of the criticism Joselu received at Newcastle was over the top and harsh considering he often gave his all, however moments like these remind us why he scored just 7 goals in 52 games for the club.
