Ex-Mag Ayoze Perez has helped lift Newcastle United out of the relegation zone on Friday night, scoring a hat-trick in Leicester’s 9-0 hammering of Southampton.
We were in third bottom at the start of play, being level with Southampton on points (8) but below them with a poorer goal difference (-9 to their -7), however their 9-0 defeat has sent them into the drop zone and moved us up to 17th.
The Saints were reduced to 10 men early on, with VAR picking up Ryan Bertrand’s high tackle on Perez, but Leicester City were absolutely ruthless, scoring more goals in less than an hour than we have all season.
Here’s Perez’s hat-trick, with him taking all three superbly in a stunning display from the Foxes at St Mary’s:
When Perez completed his £30m move to Leicester over the summer he revealed his excitement at joining a club that was ‘going places’ – and that they are, seeming like the one club outside the ‘big six’ who are ready to break the mould.
