Another uninspiring display from Newcastle here, with a dismal second half performance seeing us throw away two points against Wolves.
Here’s my ratings out of 10 for each NUFC player:
Dubravka – 5 – Very poor for the goal having been solid all afternoon, with him flapping at a cross which lead to Jonny.
Yedlin – 6 – His pace is an asset but unfortunately his positional sense is lacking. Lack of composure on the ball at times.
Fernandez – 7 – Solid on his return, often reading the danger well. Brilliant cross to set up Lascelles’ goal.
Lascelles – 7 – Thumping header gave us a much needed goal and half time lead. Lead the back line well.
Clark – 6 – Didn’t do a lot wrong but still prone to rash challenges and poor decisions, which got him booked and walking a tightrope against Traore. Not helped by Willems’ poor display ahead of him.
Willems – 5 – Had torrid starts to both halves and very subdued going forward except a great effort from distance late on. Handy on the ball but couldn’t contain Traore.
S Longstaff – 5 – Reckless red card cost us late on, undoing some of his excellent work on and off the ball in the first half.
M Longstaff – 6 – Some great touches, including a brilliant ball in behind to Almiron in the first half, but got over ran in the second.
Almiron – 6 – Some fantastic movement in the first half. Work rate and defensive contribution excellent as usual, but final ball lacking. Anonymous in second half.
Saint Maximin – 7 – Certainly makes you feel like something can happen with his pace & driving runs, but end product and awareness needs to improve.
Joelinton – 4 – So isolated and struggled to hold it up when he did get it. Is he a poor player or simply victim of poor tactics? He simply isn’t a number 9 in this system.
Brucey, 1.
No idea about tactics and pardspews all the time. Man up and take some blame for being out of your depth!
