The Premier League record Jamaal Lascelles is now closing in on..

Magpies captain Jamaal Lascelles is closing down on a Premier League record following his 37th-minute header against Wolves on Sunday.

Lascelles, who netted for the first time since firing his side ahead in another 1-1 draw at home to Burnley, scored his 4th Premier League goal, with each and every single one of them being scored with his head.

Only Dean Richards, Craig Short and Curtis Davies (all on 7) have scored more in which 100% of their goals have been with their head.

Lascelles may not get the credit he deserves but I thought he was excellent on Sunday, and I thought he was our best player in that first half even before the goal.

His leadership qualities are vital to the team on the pitch and important for our chances of survival this season, and it seems that he only gets a mention when he has played poorly because the fans almost expect our skipper to be solid at the back every week. He may not be the most technically gifted player, but the difference is notable when Jamaal is not marshalling the back-line.

Newcastle as a whole played poorly on Sunday even though they got off to a good start, and our captain is certainly one of the only few who can walk away from Sunday’s performance with his head held high.
