Alan Shearer names NUFC duo in Premier League ‘Team of the Week’ after West Ham win

Alan Shearer has named Allan Saint-Maximin in his Premier League Team of the Week – also selecting NUFC boss Steve Bruce as his manager of the weekend.

This comes after our well deserved win at the London Stadium on Saturday – a game that ended 3-2 but could have been MUCH more emphatic had we been a little more clinical in front of goal.

Nevertheless, Shearer was clearly very impressed by Saint-Maximin’s display – a player he drooled over on MOTD – whilst also giving good friend Steve Bruce credit for a much improved attacking display:

After failing to score more than one goal in a game all season before Saturday, mustering just 4 shots on target in our last 4 games, the performance at West Ham from an attacking perspective came at a perfect time.

We needed a boost and a glimmer of hope after a few too many toothless displays, and Bruce’s more attacking approach worked a treat.

Joelinton was much better, holding up the ball well and benefiting from the increased support, but both Allan Saint-Maximin and Miguel Almiron tore an abysmal West Ham defence apart.

The Frenchman did miss two big chances after being slipped through on goal, but he had the beating of Pablo Zabaleta from start to finish and constantly had Manuel Pellegrini’s side on the back foot.

Add a little more composure and quality to his final ball and we’ll have one hell of a player on our hands.
