Injury blow for NUFC as key player is ruled out until 2020 – Various reports

Some bad news on the injury front for Steve Bruce, with reports emerging on Tuesday night that Jamaal Lascelles is unlikely to play again this year.

This comes after he collided with Martin Dubravka during Saturday’s win over Bournemouth, seeing him limp off with a knee injury moments later and leave the ground on crutches as a result.

A few days on, both the Chronicle’s Lee Ryder and the Sun’s David Coverdale have confirmed ligament damage, meaning the skipper looks set to be missing for ‘2-3 months’.

The skipper will be missed, but the blow is softened considerably by our impressive depth at centre-back.

Not only are Florian Lejeune and Fabian Schar close to returning from knee inuries themselves, both Federico Fernandez and Ciaran Clark have been in superb form, playing key roles in recent wins over West Ham and Bournemouth.

In addition, Paul Dummett always steps in well, meaning we have three capable centre-backs fit for Aston Villa – even if Lascelles, Lejeune and Schar all miss out.

That said, we could miss the skipper’s leadership both on and off the pitch, with him often being a rock in the middle of our back three.

Let’s hope he comes back stronger and recovers well over the coming months.

  1. Injury of David Coverdale is the bad news for News Castle FC, they are fighting for Premier League because of table, i hope he can get well soon

  2. If it takes an absence through injury of a few months for the fans to realise that Lascelles is average at best then so be it.

Whether its as a defender or as a captain the sooner we accept he’s not the answer to our prayers the better, then maybe we can move on with someone else, just as we have to with Rafa.
