Journalist claims THREE Rafa Benitez signings could be sold by Steve Bruce in January

by Olly Hawkins ·

The Athletic's Chris Waugh has hinted that Yoshinori Muto, Javier Manquillo and Ki Sung-yueng could well be sold in January following their lack of game time this season.

The trio, who were all signed by Rafa Benitez, have been handed just 4 starts between them across our opening 12 games this season, with them all way down the pecking order in their respective positions under Steve Bruce.

Speaking during The Athletic's latest Q&A, Waugh insists that no firm plans have been made as of yet ahead of the upcoming transfer window, but I'd be very surprised if the club stood in their way should decent offers arrive for any of them in January.

Muto has never been given a run in the side since making a £9m move from Germany last summer, but for all his energy and enthusiasm, it's hard to know where he'd fit into our current side, with him not a winger and currently behind Joelinton, Carroll and Gayle in the central striker pecking order.

Ki is a tidy player, but he was woeful in his only league start at Norwich. With both he and Manquillo (who's now being Yedlin and Krafth at right-back) highly unlikely to be given a new deals before their contract's expire next summer, it may be time the club cashed in on them in January so we receive some sort of fee.

Waugh also believes Henri Saivet, Jack Colback and Jamie Sterry will be made available in the new year - not that this will come as much of a surprise given all three failed to make Steve Bruce's Premier League squad.

Do you feel we should be keeping Ki and Manquillo as squad players and giving Muto a chance to prove himself, or would you cash in on all three this winter?
