Sky Sports stats claim NUFC star is 6th most in-form player in the PL – & 3 others make top 50

Ciaran Clark is the SIXTH most in-form player in the Premier League according to Sky Sports’ latest set of power rankings.

Three other Mags also feature in their top 50 – which is ‘based on points awarded to players for 35 different statistics from goals and assists, to blocks and tackles’.

These are Jetro Willems (23rd) , Federico Fernandez (30th) and Jonjo Shelvey (50th), meaning there’s FOUR Newcastle players in Sky Sports‘ new rankings heading into the international break.

Ciaran Clark’s rank shows just how influential he’s been in recent weeks, both from an attacking and defensive perspective, with Pulisic (Chelsea), Maddison (Leicester), Vardy (Leicester), Jimenez (Wolves) and Mane (Liverpool) the only five players ranked above him based on Sky’s stats.

For a player who was deemed our sixth choice centre-back just a few weeks ago, that’s some going!

Not only has he scored vital goals (which proved to be pivotal!) in narrow wins against West Ham and Bournemouth in our last two, he’s defended admirably over the past few weeks, coming in from the cold to help us earn a clean sheet against Man Utd, as well as being arguably our best defender in a 1-0 defeat at Chelsea last month.

As for Willems and Fernandez, they’ve racked up a combined THREE assists in our last two games, while Shelvey has been influential over the past fortnight, scoring at West Ham and creating countless counter attacks against Bournemouth with several dangerous ball in behind.

Let’s hope the good form continues ahead of our trip to Villa Park a week on Monday!
