Remember Haris Vuckic? He’s doing better than you may have expected these days..

Haris Vuckic…..remember him? Well he’s playing in Holland at FC Twente now and he’s tearing up the Eredivisie!

He was once believed to be the youth set up’s jewel in the crown. He arrived at Newcastle in 2009 with a reputation of being one of Europe’s hottest young talents, and we reportedly beat a host of clubs to his signature, including Manchester United and AC Milan.

Sadly he suffered several injuries in the following years and never fulfilled his potential. Despite getting a few opportunities in the first team, mainly in the Europa League and League Cup, he never managed to make it with us as a senior player.

What followed was a nomadic period spending time on loan at Cardiff City, Rotherham United, Rangers, Wigan Athletic and Bradford City before he was eventually released in 2017.

He signed for FC Twente as a free agent that summer, and helped them gain promotion back to the Eredivisie as they won the Eerste Divise last season, the Dutch equivalent of the Championship.

They’ve had a steady start to life back in the top flight and are currently 11th in the table, but Vuckic himself has reinvented his game as an out and out striker, and has scored 7 goals in 12 games so far this season, the same amount as Ajax’s Dusan Tadic!

It’s easy to forget Vuckic is still only 27 years old as it seems he’s been around for years after signing for us when was so young.

It’s good to see that he seems to have settled at Twente and is finally fulfilling his potential. Good luck to the lad!
