Rafa Benitez signing lined up for January exit as Steve Bruce tells NUFC to get rid – Report

An ‘exclusive’ from Football Insider claims we’ll be looking to sell Ki Sung-yueng in January after Steve Bruce gave the club the green light to cash in on the midfielder.

With his contract coming to an end next summer, it seems the the club are looking to cash in on the experienced player – and it makes sense.

Ki signed a two-year contract under Benitez and was used quite regularly under the former manager, but the South Korean has made a slow start to new life under Steve Bruce, making just three appearances all season.

With the emergence of the Longstaff brothers and the recent good form of Shelvey and Hayden, Ki finds himself at the bottom of the pecking order, meaning any hopes of a new contract are practically non existent.

I’ve always rated him and found that he can do a job for the team, but it makes sense for us to sell him while we can before he leaves on a free.

Bruce is also looking to add more mobility to the central midfield in January according to reports and Ki just doesn’t have the legs to cover that much ground anymore.

With us in the market for a new central midfielder in January and Ki’s deal up next summer (meaning we’ll lose him on a free), this could make sense for all parties.
