Are we really top 10?

Based on our Premier League stats for 2019, we currently lie 9th in the league. Having played 30 games, we have amassed 42 points, only 5 less than Manchester United.

I believe this is where we should be, top half. And, as they say, the table doesn’t lie.

As we are all aware, we are actually 13th in the current season, having picked up 15 points from our opening 12 games, but recent results have given us real hope that this season may be better than another nail-biting battle at the bottom.

If only Mike Ashley could see the potential, the potential for us not to compete in the top half of the table – not in relegation dog fights year upon year.

We have been seen for some years as relegation favourites, but as a sound Premier League outfit we present ourselves as a more attractive investment.

Find us a proven goal scorer in January and the future will look much brighter. Joelinton could come good, but he needs help to take the pressure off his young shoulders.

Steve Bruce has got to be given some credit and, if we continue to progress, will we once again see 52,000 fans packing St James Park?

A win over Villa on Monday and we’ll move up to 9th. Fingers crossed we can make it three wins on the spin and get ourselves back into the top 10.

  1. I really believe that we are a lot better than people give us credit for. We have a fantastic defensive group, a reasonable midfield with a couple of great prospects in the Longstaff brothers. If we sign a dynamic midfield driver it would be a bonus and a good step forward.
We know the front line are not hitting the net yet, but I think by the end of the season we will be excited by those we are frustrated with now.
