NUFC to sign 6ft 4′ midfielder? Journalist claims January deal “shouldn’t be a problem”

According to The Sun’s Alan Nixon, a January move for Strasbourg star Ibrahima Sissoko is in the pipeline.

This comes a few weeks on from Nixon’s ‘exclusive’ which claimed we were closing in on the midfielder, and he’s offered an update on the potential deal after being quizzed by a Newcastle fan on Twitter.

When asked for the latest, he stated that the move is now ‘just down to the fee’, yet insisted that this ‘shouldn’t be a problem’ for Newcastle, suggesting a deal is well within our reach for the 6ft 4′ Frenchman:

Nixon actually called our deadline day move for Federico Fernandez well before it went through last year and seems to be on the ball with all things NUFC, so this could be one to watch.

Not only that, Sissoko ticks just about every box when it comes to Mike Ashley’s buying policy, with him being young and relatively cheap for a highly rated French U-21 international.

It’s also well documented that Bruce wants to sign a new holding midfielder to properly replace Mo Diame, so this could be a deal we’re looking to get done if we fail to sign Granit Xhaka on loan.

Time will tell, but this move sounds like the exact deal Mike Ashley would sanction.
