Alan Shearer’s brutal 6-word assessment of NUFC after last night’s display at Aston Villa

Alan Shearer has summed up last night’s awful display at Aston Villa in six words, blasting our complete lack of ‘goal threat’ on a ‘poor night’ at Villa Park.

Here’s how the former NUFC number 9 reacted to Monday night’s dismal display:

Those 6 words summed up the entire 90 minutes of football from us at Villa Park – we never looked like scoring on what really was a poor night all round for everyone involved in black and white.

The front three looked toothless and offered little threat to Tom Heaton’s goal, with Almiron and Joelinton having stinkers.

Whenever they got into good attacking positions they either misplaced the pass, had poor touches or fired high and wide, with them having just one shot between them on Villa’s goal all night.

For all his effort, Almiron was hugely ineffective and Joelinton looked completely out of sorts.

Saint-Maximin tried his best but he can’t do everything on his own, with there being a worrying lack of creativity and pace in the midfield, making us too easy to defend against for an Aston Villa who looked like they wanted it more all over the pitch.

The usually solid back three looked ponderous and were cut through so easily at times, with Yedlin and Fernandez giving away cheap free kicks that lead to goals and Dummet guilty of ball watching.

Last night we well and truly wasted an opportunity to break into the top 10.

Let’s hope we are MUCH better against Man City on Saturday. We’ll need to be!
