Shock player now NUFC’s top performer in 1 key area under Bruce – Time he was given a start?

Twitter page ‘The Other 14‘ has released more surprising stats this week, this time on which Newcastle player has created the most chances per 90 minutes this season.

Christian Atsu is not the name that would have sprung to mind for most I’m sure, but that’s exactly who it is!!

See the table below:

This suggests the Ghanaian has been more effective than some fans give him credit for when he’s featured this season, but it isn’t exactly a positive. It actually serves as a reminder about how ineffective our front 3 are, that a squad player yet to prove himself at Premier League level is creating more chances than them.

The clamour for Almiron to be dropped seems to have grown substantially this week and Atsu is the obvious choice to come into the team as a straight replacement for our misfiring Paraguayan.

There are some fans who actually still believe he could offer so much more if he was played in his correct position, and if the team actually tried to play in a manner that saw them win two in the bounce, but these crazy idealists are surely talking nonsense!?

Howeverm why not throw Atsu in there? He’s looked fairly sharp this season and clearly has ability. Oh how long ago does that beautiful ball he floated into Joelinton at Spurs seem now?

I don’t think he could possibly do any worse than Almiron or Saint Maximin did at Villa.
