Alan Shearer names 3 players who impressed him most during Newcastle 2-2 Man City

Alan Shearer singled out three stand out Newcastle players after our spirited 2-2 draw with Manchester City over the weekend.

The former NUFC no.9 picked out Jonjo Shelvey, Martin Dubravka and Jetro Willems for special praise:

Each of the three had fantastic performances

Shelley, who had the armband today in Lascelles absence, put in a captain’s performance. He grafted and did the ugly work in the center of midfield but also provided class when we needed it most, capping off his performance with a beautiful strike that flew in to give us a well deserved point.

Dubrakva was immaculate and made a few huge saves that kept us in the game. His double save after shots from Jesus and De Bruyne was huge, as well as the save late on from Sterling where he made the ball stick to his glove, saving us a point. The Slovakian ran the length of the pitch after Shelvey’s goal and showed us just how much it meant to him.

Willems gets better and better each match. He finished beautifully to equalize in the first half after Miggy fed him in the box. For a left back, his finishing is lethal and precise. He defended well today keeping Mahrez and Bernardo Silva quiet the whole game. If he keeps playing like this, it’s a no brainer we have to make his move permanent.
