Sky Sports stats claim NUFC star is 7th most in-form player in the PL – & 4 others make top 50

Newcastle United star Jonjo Shelvey has been named the 7th most in-form player in the Premier League according to Sky Sports’ Power Rankings.

The rankings focus on a range of key stats in their search for the most in-form players in the top flight, and the stand-in skipper isn’t the only Newcastle man to make their top 50.

Martin Dubravka is 16th – the highest ranked goalkeeper as things stand – Federico Fernandez is ranked 34th, Jetro Willems 41st and Allan Saint-Maximin 49th following his goal at Brammal Lane last night:

Shelvey’s rise to form has been superb. His 3 goals in our last 5 games (making him our top scorer on 4!) have won him the headlines, but it’s been his all round performances that have been more encouraging than anything else.

He’s not only been much more measured on the ball, with us seeing few wasteful Hollywood passes and more intelligent play, his work off the ball has been disciplined and committed.

Elsewhere, Martin Dubravka has been outstanding. Without him we could’ve easily come away with zero points from out last two, with him coming up trumps in key moments against Man City and making several incredible stops to keep our noses in front of Sheffield United last night.

Fernandez has been a monster at the back, Willems continues to impress at both ends and Saint-Maximin is finally adding some final product to his electric approach play.

Southampton next on Sunday. It won’t be easy, but continue to play with the same focus, intensity and desire as we have in our last few and there’s no reason why we can’t come away with another big win.
