Allan Saint-Maximin has not only been pictured leaving St James’ Park on crutches, but told local reporters that his latest hamstring injury is a “bad one”.
The win over Southampton was brilliant, making it 7 points in 8 days, sending us up to 10th, two points from 5th and SEVEN clear of the drop zone, but ASM’s late injury is a huge blow.
Here’s what The Chronicle’s Lee Ryder and The Athletic’s Chris Waugh have had to say about the Frenchman in the last few moments, revealing what he told them as he limped out of the stadium on crutches:
It’s been a brilliant day, but this really does threaten to take the shine off it.
Thankfully we’ve moved comfortably clear of the drop zone and are now pushing in the right direction inside the league’s top 10, however it looks like we’ll need Christian Atsu to step up over the coming weeks.
Based on ASM’s reaction here, he looks almost certain to be ruled out until the new year and may well be missing for a large chunk of January.
Get well soon, Allan!
What’s the drop zone can we please report in English rather than American.
