Leicester City are “set to win the race” for long-term Newcastle United target Jarrod Bowen according to the Sunday Mirror.
The report claims both ourselves and Southampton have shown serious interest, but state the Foxes are ‘pushing hardest’ to land the 22-year-old – and could sign him for as little as £10m in January.
I find that fee hard to believe given Hull City have an option in place to extend his contract beyond next summer, meaning a £10m deal seems far too cheap considering they demanded £20m for his services last summer.
Either way, you can’t help but fear we might have missed the boat here. He’s bagged 15 goals and 4 assists for an average Hull side so far this season, taking his Championship tally up to 37 goals over the past 18 months.
We refused to pay Hull’s £20m asking price over the summer according to the Chronicle, but may be regretting that now – even if he *might* be available at a cut-price fee next month.
Mark Douglas reported over the weekend that the player was open to the idea of signing at St James’ Park and suggested we were doing ‘groundwork’ on a deal that would see him arrive next summer, but have we left it too late?
Time will tell.
