NUFC set to receive £5m bid for in-form player – & club think Mike Ashley could cash in – Report

West Ham will submit a ‘£5m offer’ for Newcastle full-back Javier Manquillo next month, according to the Northern Echo.

It was reported by The Daily Telegraph on Sunday that West Ham, Crystal Palace and Brighton were all eyeing January moves for the soon-to-be out of contract Spaniard, but it’s now claimed that the Hammers are readying a bid.

The piece also claims that West Ham are hopeful Mike Ashley could cash in, allowing ‘us’ to get our money back and more on a player we signed for £4.5m in 2017.

Many wouldn’t have batted an eyelid had the 25-year-old left a few months ago – with him being behind Yedlin and Krafth in the pecking order earlier in the season – however his recent form has been superb.

He’s started all of our last four games and has been arguably our most consistent player in that spell, defending admirably, carrying the ball forward well from right wing-back and even bagging an assist in our 0-2 win at Sheffield United earlier this month.

That said, he’s set to leave on a free next summer if he’s not offered a new contract by the club, meaning he may well be considering his options next month.

On current form, we should be handing him an extension, but a £5m bid is something Mike Ashley may be tempted to accept.

Would you hand him a new deal or cash in if a decent offer arrives?
