TalkSPORT claim it would be ‘no surprise’ if Steve Bruce cashed in on Miguel Almiron in January, claiming the misfiring winger needs a move in the new year.
We all know talkSPORT rely on pretty over the top arguments to fuel debate and mass hysteria amongst fans, but this one’s a little far fetched!
After naming the Paraguayan in their list of “10 Premier League players who need a transfer in January”, here’s what talkSPORT had to say about the 25-year-old:
“Blessed with sensational pace and great work ethic, Almiron’s lack of success at St James’ is certainly not down a lack of effort.
“Steve Bruce does not appear to know how to get the best out of the 25-year-old, but rather wants him to mould into his system.
“It is well over a year now since his last goal, with fans on the Toon yet to see why Rafa Benitez was so keen to make him the most lucrative MLS export in history.
“Having made just one assist this year, do not be surprised if Bruce looks to cash in to generate funds for his January budget.”
Almiron must improve on his final ball and begin to show a little more composure in front of goal, but to suggest we could ‘cash in’ on him in January is an insult to what he offers this team.
We do lack goal scorers, so his missed chances and tame shots hurt us more now we’ve lost Salomon Rondon and Ayoze Perez (who scored over 20 goals between them last season), however his energy, pace and ability to unsettle teams still make him a valuable asset.
Do we need to sign another winger who can chip in with goals? Yes – someone like Jarrod Bowen would be a brilliant signing – but to suggest Bruce may cash in on the Paraguayan in January is laughable.
