NUFC star spotted back in training – but key man nowhere to be seen ahead of Palace clash

The club have released pictures of the first-team in training on Thursday, and it appears to be mixed news on Miguel Almiron and Jonjo Shelvey.

It was reported earlier this week that both wee ’50/50′ for Saturday’s game with Palace, with Sky Sports claiming it would come down to their involvement in training on Thursday.

Well, today’s the day and only one of the recently injured duo can be seen in the club’s training pictures. Miguel Almiron can be seen taking part today, however there’s no sign of Jonjo Shelvey in any of the club’s 35 snaps (see them all here).

Shelvey stated on Tuesday that he would be in with ‘a chance’ of playing against Palace if he returned to training on Thursday (today), so his absence seems pretty ominous.

Steve Bruce may tell us differently during his pre-match press conference tomorrow, however today’s training pictures make Shelvey’s involvement on Saturday seem all the more unlikely – especially when we’ll refrain from taking risks at this busy stage of the season.

Crucially, the Chronicle’s pictures show him doing light work in the gym, but NOT with the group out on the training pitches.

On the plus side, Almiron’s potential return could be a real boost, but Sean Longstaff will need to put in a much improved display this weekend if we’re to cope without Shelvey – our midfield creator and top scorer this season.
