Jetro Willems has only been dribbled past 10 times this season – less than any other defender outside the league’s “big six”.
This comes from brilliant Twitter page @TheOhter14 – which shares stats on the sides outside Liverpool, Man City, Man Utd, Chelsea, Arsenal and Spurs – and also reveals that the Dutchman’s tackle success rate of 76% has only been bettered by one player; Everton’s Djibril Sidibe.
See the stats below, showing how the 25-year-old is not only an efficient tackler but a player Premier League wingers are struggling to get past:
When Jetro Willems arrived on a season-long loan from Frankfurt there were fears over his defensive capabilities. He was known for his ability going forward but Bundesliga reporters worried he’d struggle at the other end – and that’s not been the case.
He’s contributed with goals, assists and impressive link up play in attack, but he’s often stood up to the test and stayed switched on defensively – something these outstanding stats back up pretty convincingly.
With him still battling to win a permanent move to St James’ Park, let’s hope he continues to impress Bruce as both ends of the pitch!
