According to some outstanding new stats, Federico Fernandez averages more blocks and clearances per game than ANY other player outside the Premier League’s ‘big 6’.
The 30-year-old – whose contract expires next summer – has made an average of 9.57 blocks and clearances per 90 minutes played this season; a total that leaves him above the likes of Aston Villa’s Tyron Mings, Wolves’ Willy Bolly and Bournemouth’s Steve Cook.
As brilliant Twitter page @TheOther14 highlight below, NUFC duo Ciaran Clark and Jamaal Lascelles also make the list, but the in-form Argentine is way out in front:
Just about every Newcastle United fans will be aware just how good Fernandez has been this season, with him not only defending admirably but weighing in with 2 goals and 2 assists, however it’s crucial that Mike Ashley rewards his good form with a new deal if he’s to stay at St James’ Park beyond this season.
The former Swansea skipper will leave on a free next summer if nothing changes, but it would be absolutely criminal to lose a player of his class, with him arguably our most consistent defender.
Time to reward his brilliant form with a new deal!
