New injury confirmed by Bruce – NUFC facing mini-crisis ahead of Man Utd & Everton games?

Steve Bruce has confirmed that Paul Dummett was forced off against Crystal Palace with a groin injury.

The defender, who played as a left wing-back in Jetro Willems’ absence, limped off late on during yesterday’s 1-0 win over Crystal Palace and is now an early doubt for upcoming games against Man Utd and Everton over the next 7 days.

Here’s what Bruce had to say about the defender’s late withdrawal:

“He’s (Dummett) got a groin injury.

“We’ll see how he is.

“For Dummy to play and we were struggling on that left side with (Jetro) Willems out.

“It was difficult for him, but you know how it is for him – he sticks at it, and never, ever lets anybody down.”

With Willems missing yesterday and Matt Ritchie out until the new year, Dummett’s potential absence could leave us facing a mini-crisis at left-back – but let’s hope it doesn’t come to that with games coming thick and fast over the festive period.

He didn’t look comfortable from an attacking perspective at wing-back, but he’s the sort of player who’ll do a job wherever he plays across the back line, with him not letting us down defensively in typical Paul Dummett style.

With Lejeune back, some will say he won’t be missed if Willems returns at Man Utd on Boxing Day, but his commitment and consistency would still be missed.

Here’s hoping it’s only minor and he’s back before long!
