Allan Saint-Maximin injury update emerges as Bruce names expected return date

Steve Bruce has hinted that Allan Saint-Maximin may be back at the end of January, saying he’s still ‘a while off’ from being fit.

The Frenchman suffered a hamstring tear during our win over Southampton earlier this month and has initially been expected to miss ‘4 weeks’.

We won without him for the first time this season against Palace, but it looks like we’ll have to cope in his absence for a good few weeks longer, with him expected to miss league games between now and mid January against Man Utd, Everton, Leicester, Wolves and Chelsea.

Here’s what Bruce has had to say when asked for an update on the winger’s injury:

“He is still a while off, if I’m going to be honest,”

“He’s going to be the middle of January at least I’d have thought.”

He’s a BIG miss and arguably our most influential player, however we’ll have to hope Almiron can now kick on after scoring his first goal for the club last weekend.

Elsewhere, The Chronicle have suggested that both Dummett and Willems could miss the trip to Old Trafford on Boxing Day, meaning Manquillo could switch to the left-hand side and Krafth or Yedlin come in at right wing-back.
