Joseph DaGrosa has broken his silence on GACP’s interest in buying Newcastle United, but it’s mixed ‘news’ on a potential deal.
DaGrosa reveals that he’d held “very positive” talks with Mike Ashley’s ‘top representative’ and insists they’re still talking, but does state that he’s “not sure we’re going to reach an agreement”.
Speaking to NBC, here’s what he’s had to say:
“I will confirm that I’ve had conversations with Mike Ashley’s top representative.
“I would describe those conversations as very positive. I would say Mike Ashley & his team are a lot easier & a lot friendlier & business savvy.
“We’re still talking. I’m not sure we’re going to reach an agreement, but that’s certainly not because of either side’s intractability or unwillingness to move forward.”
DaGrosa did recently open a fresh company called “GACP NEWCASTLE INVESTORS (U.S.) LLC” – which could be used as a vehicle to complete any potential deal. We’ve been here before, however.
GACP also sold their minority stake in Bordeaux 17 months after completing a takeover of the Ligue 1 side, but it remains to be seen if DaGrosa’s pursuit of Newcastle United will come to anything.
After all, we’ve been here before and had our fingers burnt – and his last few comments suggest a deal may not materiliase.
We live in hope, but certainly not expectation.
