New injury revealed by Bruce – 6 players set to miss Everton game?

Steve Bruce has confirmed that Javier Manquillo has a slight calf problem, suggesting he could miss Saturday’s clash with Everton.

The Spaniard has been superb in recent weeks, keeping Wilfried Zaha quiet in our last win at St James’ Park and putting in several solid displays, however it sounds like he may not be risked when the Toffees come to town tomorrow.

Jamaal Lascelles, Matt Ritchie and Allan Saint-Maximin are all out until the new year, while Paul Dummett (groin) and Ciaran Clark (calf) seem likely to miss out once again based on Bruce’s comments earlier this week.

Here’s what the NUFC boss said on the injury front after yesterday’s defeat at Old Trafford:

“Manquillo has a calf that he’s been complaining about but we’ll see what tomorrow brings.”

With this in mind, it sounds highly likely that Yedlin will return at right wing-back.

It doesn’t sound like Manquillo’s ‘injury’ is a bad one, but I don’t see him being risked with the Everton game coming so soon after that gruelling 4-1 defeat at Old Trafford.

Elsewhere, there’ll be question marks over Florian Lejeune. Can he really start two games in 48 hours after 8 months out?

I expect Shelvey, Carroll and Hayden to all return, but it’ll be interesting to see the team Bruce picks come 2pm tomorrow!
