Bruce confirms 5 new injuries after Leicester loss – 11 players set to miss FA Cup clash?

Steve Bruce has confirmed that FIVE players suffered new injuries during yesterday’s 0-3 defeat to Leicester City at St James’ Park.

The NUFC boss fears DeAndre Yedlin has broke his hand, has confirmed hamstring injuries for Fabian Schar, Jonjo Shelvey and Javier Manquillo, and that Jetro Willems felt his groin in the first-half.

All will face scans today to determine the extent of their injuries, but it looks like they could all miss this weekend’s FA Cup outing at Rochdale.

Here’s what Bruce has had to say about all five:

“We’ve lost four players in 15 minutes. It could have been five because we think [DeAndre] Yedlin has broken his hand.

In all the years I’ve been involved I don’t think I’ve known a 15 minutes like that.”

“Three of them are hamstring injuries, the other [Willems] is a groin.

They’ll get scanned & we’ll find out the severity.

I said it a month ago, to play four games in ten days is ludicrous.

I didn’t have the bodies to change because we had four/five missing anyway.”

This now takes our number of injuries up to ELEVEN, giving Bruce a major crisis as we prepare for our FA Cup clash with Rochdale on Saturday.

Not only did we pick up FIVE new injuries against Leicester, we also have Jamaal Lascelles, Ciaran Clark, Paul Dummett, Allan Saint-Maximin and Matt Ritchie sidelined.

We’ll be hoping to see us take the FA Cup seriously this season, but with so many senior players injured and our squad stretched significantly over the festive period, it’s difficult to see us fielding a strong side come Saturday lunchtime.
