Transfer blow for NUFC as Bruce is told to wait for ‘top target’ – One to watch this summer?

If the Telegraph are to be believed, one player who won’t be signing at St James’ Park this month is Jarrod Bowen.

The Hull City star has regularly been described as Steve Bruce’s ‘top target’ ahead of the January transfer window, however Mike McGrath’s report claims the Tigers will resist offers for their top scorer now they’re just two points off the Championship play-off spots.

This will be a blow for Steve Bruce given our desperate need for goals (and he’s scored 38 in the past 18 months!), although the piece does suggest we’ll explore the possibility of signing him in the summer, however.

Bowen is currently due to be out of contract in six-months time, but it’s well documented that Hull have an option to extend his current deal by another year – something they’re bound to do to protect their asset.

The Telegraph report that Aston Villa and West Ham were the two other Premier League clubs ready to battle us for the 23-year-old winger, however it looks like this is a deal we’ll have to revisit in a few months time.

That said, we may have missed the boat on this one (we had a chance to sign him for £20m last summer if you believe the Chronicle) if he continues to score goals for fun in the second tier.

  1. Reality check. Only loans this window. Exodus of our very few talented players due to relegation. Geordie Linton stays as no one will come in for him at 40m and he will take that, 5 years is it, wage week in week out!
