Newcastle officials set for Omar Colley talks with summer deal in mind – Report

According to reports in Italy, Newcastle officials will travel to Italy in the ‘next few days’ to begin talks with Sampdoria defender Omar Colley.

We’ve seen a few bizarre transfer stories already this month – with 36-year-old striker Glenn Murray linked this morning – but this has to be up there considering the number of good centre-backs already on the club’s books.

That said, TuttoMercatoWeb claim we’ve watched him ‘several times’ this season and are now ready to open talks over a potential summer deal – with Sampdoria unwilling to sell this month.

Yes, we’ve had a injury crisis in that area of late, but with SIX capable options in Schar, Fernandez, Lascelles, Lejeune, Clark and Dummett on our books and several of those close to returning, the signing of another central defender is the LAST thing we need to focus on this month.

Not only that, Colley turns 28 later this year, meaning he’s hardly ‘one for the future’ if we were looking to sign a potential replacement for soon-to-be out of contract centre-back Federico Fernandez.

Colley stands 6ft 3′ tall and has impressed with the Serie A side since making a £7m move from KRC Genk in the summer of 2018.
