Ex-Mag now ‘one of the candidates’ to land vacant role at Newcastle United – Report

According to the Chronicle, former Mag Peter Ramage has applied for the vacant U23 manager’s role at Newcastle United.

Lee Ryder claims the 36-year-old – who played 68 times for the club between 2004 and 2008 – is now ‘one of the candidates’ being looked at to replace Neil Redfearn.

This comes a few months on from Redfearn’s sudden exit in November following a reported fall out, however it’s claimed the vacant position is now being looked at by head of coaching Ben Dawson.

Aside from being an assistant coach for United Soccer League side Phoenix Rising FC over the past two seasons, Ramage has little experience in management – although he does know more than most when it comes to young players rising through the ranks at the club’s Academy.

If his application proves to be successful, The Chronicle report that Ramage would work alongside Ben Dawson and former team-mate Steve Harper at U-23 level.

With Andy Carroll, Shola Ameobi and Steve Harper all returning to the club recently, would you like to see Ramage become the next local lad back on Tyneside?
