Newcastle ‘interested’ in Ligue 1 captain – West Ham & Watford also keen – Report

According to an ‘exclusive’ from Le10 Sport, Newcastle are one of THREE Premier League clubs who have ‘indicated their interest’ in Amiens captain Prince Gouano.

The French outlet claims both ourselves, West Ham and Watford are all tracking the 26-year-old, but the fact he’s a centre-back – the last area we need to strengthen – raises immediate doubts.

Silly season is well and truly underway, with us being linked with every name under the sun already in January, however you have to question whether we really are looking at another central defender.

Nevertheless, Le10 Sport’s latest ‘exclusive’ insists that we are tracking him, claiming we plan to make a move for the 6ft 1′ Frenchman this month.

He’s not long turned 26 – so fits into Mike Ashley’s tedious buying policy – and plays in a league we’ve regularly shopped in over the past decade, yet hasn’t played since August due to a viral infection.

There’s a chance we’re looking at centre-backs due to the fact Federico Fernandez’s deal expires in a few months time, but it would surely make more sense to hand him a new contract – not spend money and time signing an unnecessary alternative from France?
