NUFC U-23 spotted training with the club’s first team 5 months on from summer move

Newcastle United new boy Ludwig Francillette has confirmed he’s been training with the club’s first team this week.

The 6ft 4′ centre-back arrived into our U-23 set up as a relative unknown back in August and travelled with Steve Bruce’s side to last weekend’s FA Cup clash at Rochdale.

He didn’t make Bruce’s 18-man squad, with youngsters Allan, Cass and Sorensen named on the bench instead, but he’s since been invited to train with the first team.

Here’s what the Frenchman has had to say on Twitter after mixing it with the senior side this week:

“Made the walk across to train with the 1st team.

“It’s just great to learn and improve around such good players and great pros.

“I’ll keep working hard to be called upon if and when needed in training.”

The 20-year-old comes into a club full of capable centre-backs, with us having SIX strong options in Lascelles, Lejeune, Schar, Fernandez, Clark and Dummett, however he could well be one for the future – especially when the vast majority of our current options are either in their late 20’s or early 30’s.

After a few made the trip to Rochdale, it’s good to see Bruce bringing a few of our youngsters into the senior set up this week.

Hopefully it pays dividends in the long run.
