5 NUFC players miss training – but 7 first-team stars return & U-23 trio involved ahead of Wolves clash

Newcastle United have released pictures from today’s session at Benton’s training base, giving us a good idea who will be fit and who’ll miss out ahead of this weekend’s trip to Wolves.

There’s no sign of Schar, Shelvey, Manquillo, Muto, while Lascelles‘ return to training won’t come until tomorrow – meaning Saturday’s game will almost certainly come too soon for all five – however the huge plus is the sighting of Allan Saint-Maximin.

The Frenchman was pictured back on the grass earlier this week, however the club have confirmed that he took part in ‘some’ of the full training session on Thursday, with NUFC.co.uk’s photos showing him involved with the group for the first time since last month’s hamstring tear:

It’s also worth noting that Almiron, Willems, Dummett, Clark, Carroll and Gayle all feature in the photos.

The club confirmed that all six returned to training earlier this week after recent injuries, but their continued presence on the training field today suggests all will be fit and ready for Saturday’s trip to Wolves.

Matt Ritchie also looks set to return this weekend, with the official site stating that he’s trained all week after his cameo appearances at Rochdale last Saturday.

Elsewhere, it’s worth noting that THREE Newcastle U-23’s appear to have taken part in the senior session, with Ludwig Francillette, Thomas Allan and Lewis Cass all featuring in the club’s official photos today:

So, it seems Steve Bruce’s injury issues are finally starting to clear up – but we must keep it that way and ease certain players back into the side.

Saint-Maximin is the prime example here. He’s someone we’ve missed badly and struggle to win without, however it would be foolish to throw him straight back into the side after he’s only just recovered from his second hamstring injury of the season.
