Danny Mills makes pathetic Joelinton claim after Miguel Almiron shows him up…again

After launching several petty digs at Miguel Almiron during his goal drought, Danny Mills has now turned his attention to Joelinton – saying NUFC fans should ‘write him off’.

He named Almiron in his ‘worst XI of the Premier League so far’ just a few weeks ago and regularly slated the Paraguayan, but 3 goals in his last 6 games and an outstanding display in our 1-1 draw at Wolves has helped prove Mills wrong once again.

Now, Joelinton is getting a bashing off the pundit, who claims Newcastle fans should ‘write him off’.

Here’s what Mills has had to say during his latest chat with Football Insider:

“No it’s not harsh – you can write him off.

“There has to be a point where you look at it and think, is it down to performances? Is he doing all the right things? Is he doing what the manager wants?

“Patrick Bamford at Leeds is still working very hard, and he’s still missing chances from time to time, is Joelinton doing the same sort of thing for Newcastle? I’m not convinced that he is.

“I think…the only problem for Newcastle is they don’t really have a replacement, that’s the issue isn’t it.

“Whoever spent that large amount of money, has some serious questions to answer.”

Joelinton has struggled badly, not only struggling to lead the line on his own up top but scoring just once so far, but it’s pathetic to say we should write him off.

After all, where would we have been with Miguel Almiron if we’d done this with him after he failed to score in any of his first 23 games?

It’s easy to jump on the bandwagon and slate a struggling player, but, after the confidence shattering abuse he’s received in recent weeks, it’s surely our duty to get behind the Brazilian – even if he’s failing to deliver the goods up top.

  1. If Joelinton was actually a striker then people might have a reason to slate him but the fact of the matter is, he’s a midfielder and always has been. Steve Bruce is playing him upfront and putting him in the firing line when really if he was played behind the striker we’d have a quality player on our hands. As for Danny Mills giving Patrick Bamford credit hahahaha he’s possibly the worst striker in England’s professional leagues, but Danny Mills is ex Leeds ain’t he so you know.

  2. Douglas Sweeney:
Joelinton played 25 games for Hoffenheim last season – 19 as a forward so he’s not a midfielder.

Yeh he’s not a midfielder, but he’s more of a inside forward or striker who’s at least had a partner to work with – not a lone number 9 who’s isolated and feeding off long balls.

  3. Don’t let Mills win, negative articles from Olly really shouldn’t get published.

Let’s have some good news for a change instead of the Mackem doom and gloom view.

‘Mackem doom and gloom view’ ?

This article is literally saying we shouldn’t write off Joelinton and get behind him instead 🙄
