NUFC loan star hints summer deal is ‘already agreed’ – Fingers crossed

Jetro Willems has hinted that Newcastle and Frankfurt may already have an agreement in place over his potential permanent move to St James’ Park.

This comes from his latest interview with the Chronicle, with his comments backing up recent reports claiming we can sign him for a fee in excess of £10m when his loan expires this summer.

After insisting recently that he was keen to extend his stay and sign permanently, here’s what the Dutchman had to say – also suggesting the two clubs may already have an agreement in place regarding his permanent move:

“I feel the same – I’ll keep going.

“I heard some things that the club have already agreed with Frankfurt.

“I haven’t spoken to them.”

“We will see, but it will be nice.

“I don’t know if people think I am doing my job well but I am feeling good.”

The Dutchman endured a slight dip in form over the festive period, but it’s fair to say his loan move from Germany has been a big success so far.

With Matt Ritchie finally fit again, Willems now has real competition and faces a fight to keep a hold of his starting spot at left wing-back, however it’s just as well we signed him given the former Bournemouth man has been out injured since August.

Willems has shown real quality in the final third, scoring a few superb goals and weighing in with his fair share of assists too, but he’s also done a solid job defensively.

He’s not a natural defender and has had a few tough afternoons, however he’s stood up to the test well more often than not – something many feared he wouldn’t after an unconvincing spell in the Bundesliga with Frankfurt.
