Newcastle working on deal to sign 6ft 4' powerhouse at 'knock down' fee - Journalist

by Olly Hawkins ·

Newcastle are 'still working' on a deal to sign Strasbourg star Ibrahima Sissoko, according to The Sun's Alan Nixon.

Nixon reported back in October that we were 'close to an agreement' over the 6ft 4' midfielder, while Sky Sports confirmed we'd held talks, and it seems we are still pursuing a potential deal for the 22-year-old.

A fee in the region of £10-£13m was mentioned when reports of our interest first emerged a few months ago, but Nixon's latest update claims we're haggling on price and looking to sign the powerhouse at a knock down fee.

The Sun journalist - who was the first to report on Federico Fernandez's move to St James' Park - has also had his say on ambitious links with Moussa Dembele, saying Bruce 'would like to spend big on a striker' but Lyon's valuation is 'way above' what Newcastle could afford.

Back to Sissoko, the French U-21 international appears to be one of the players Bruce is looking at in his bid to sign a 'box-to-box' midfielder, with The Athletic recently confirming that he was a player our scouts have been impressed by.

Sissoko has played 56 times for Strasbourg over the last 18 months, bagging 3 goals and 2 assists in the process.

One to watch in Bruce's pursuit of a new midfielder?
