NUFC handed chance to sign La Liga striker – £21m asking price & player wants to leave – Report

According to reports in Spain, Newcastle have been offered the chance to sign Karl Toko Ekambi – but Villarreal will demand £21m for the striker.

This comes from Spanish outlet El Periódico Mediterráneo, who claims the 27-year-old’s agent has been in touch with both Newcastle and West Ham over a potential January deal.

The report claims that Villarreal are reluctant to lose him, with him bagging 24 goals and 10 assists in the last 18 months for the La Liga side, however it’s claimed he’s keen to leave.

LeSport10 reported last week that we were eyeing a move for the Cameroonian goalscorer, but our alleged interest in the striker is yet to be confirmed from a reputable source closer to home.

He was confirmed to be a target of our by The Chronicle 18 months ago following his 22-goal season with Angers, but he’s now a few years older, so it’s difficult to say if Mike Ashley would sanction a big money move for a player turning 28 layer this year.

Unless he is a top target and someone we’re still keen to sign, I don’t see us taking agents up on offers like this – even if he could be a very handy signing and upgrade on our current options up top.
