Newcastle now ‘in talks’ with Arsenal to sign young striker – Report

According to Football Insider, Newcastle are in talks with Arsenal over the potential signing of young forward Alfie Matthews.

The ‘exclusive claims we are now ‘ready to table an offer’ after holding discussions with the North London club – who are at risk of losing the 18-year-old given his current contract is set to expire this summer.

Matthews is a striker but has also operated as a number 10 during his time with Arsenal’s U-18’s.

He’s bagged two goals nine appearances for the Gunners youth side and has been called up to the U-23 side on occasion this season.

With Scottish talent Reagan Thomson being pictured arriving at the club earlier this week, it looks like Matthews could be the latest youngster we’re trying to bring to the club, with us appearing to put a greater emphasis on improving our U-23 squad over the past few seasons.
