A transfer rumour I wasn’t expecting to read this morning, with the Sunday People claiming we’ve had a loan bid ‘rejected’ for Leicester City’s Hamza Choudhury.
The report claims Brendan Rodgers is keen to keep the 22-year-old midfielder at the King Power Stadium and has turned down offers from both ourselves and Burnley this month.
Steve Bruce is said to be in the market for a new midfielder, making this link potentially plausible (or simply the papers putting two and two together and making 5!), but there’s a few reasons why this story doesn’t quite add up.
Firstly, the NUFC boss was pretty scathing in his assessment of Choudhury after a ‘horror’ challenge on Matt Ritchie left him crocked back in August, saying he was ‘over the top’ and ‘could’ve ended his career’.
That aside, Choudhury is more of a holding midfielder and not the ‘box-to-box’ player Bruce is widely reported to want – but his potential relationship with Matt Ritchie may make that irrelevant!
He’s a decent player – albeit a dirty one who’s making a habit of late challenges – but I don’t think he’d give us that driving force we’re missing in midfield right now.
