Journalist reveals ‘bargain’ fee NUFC could pay to sign Bentaleb at the end of loan move

According to reports in France, Newcastle will have the chance to sign Nabil Bentaleb for just £8.5m at the end of his proposed loan move.

The Algerian international’s arrival appears to be imminent, with widespread reports revealing that he’s now on Tyneside to complete a medical ahead of a loan deal until the end of the season.

That loan move is said to include an option to buy, however, and Foot Mercato’s Sebastien Denis claims we’ll have the option to sign him on a permanent deal for €10m (£8.5m) this summer should he impress.

Given he cost Schalke £16m back in the summer of 2017, is still just 25 years old and has Premier League experience after four years at Tottenham, this could be a real bargain for Steve Bruce.

He could be the box-to-box, all action midfielder we’ve lacked at times this season, but he still has a lot to prove.

Bentaleb has had both injury and disciplinary issues of late, being frozen out at Schalke’s first-team this season as a result, however he was in superb form them across 2018/19, bagging 8 goals from midfield – including 3 goals in 6 Champions League appearances that season.

Hopefully his medical goes well and he’s confirmed as our first senior signing of the January window in the next 24 hours!

  1. Sounds like another case where nobody will have him except us – and anybody else who happens to be good probably won’t want to come here anyway! Most prefer the bright lights of London or Manchester.
