Some breaking news in the last few moments, with it revealed that Schalke midfielder Nabil Bentaleb has arrived on Tyneside to complete a loan move to St James’ Park.
This comes from both The Times’ Martin Hardy, Sky Sports and The Chronicle’s Lee Ryder, who all report that the ex-Spurs midfielder is set to have a medical today – and could be announced later this afternoon.
The deal is reportedly a loan move until the end of the season which includes an option to buy the 25-year-old this summer:
Bentableb made 66 appearances for Tottenham between 2013 and 2017 before completing a £19m move to Schalke two and a half years ago.
The 6ft 2′ midfielder has since bagged 19 goals and 9 assists in 97 games for Schalke, but has struggled for game time so far this season.
Is this the mystery signing Mark Douglas was talking about?

He’s not a goal scorer – he’s an aggressive box to box midfielder.
That said, he did score 8 for Schalke last season – including 3 goals in 6 Champions League apps.
